Heavy pre-monsoon rains in the city brought welcome relief from the sweltering heat on Tuesday evening. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city witnessed 20.6 millimetre of rain in just an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the increase in humidity over the last couple of days, pre-monsoon showers were expected. The downpour, accompanied by heavy lightning and winds, began around 4.30 pm. The rain continued in many parts of the city till late in the evening, bringing down the temperature considerably.
However, normal life in the city was disrupted. There were traffic snarls at various places, as also power failure in different parts of the city.
“More than 100 incidents of trees uprooting and branches falling were reported in areas like Sahakarnagar, Bhavani Peth, Pashan, Kothrud, Navi Peth and Katraj. We received over 50 calls regarding this. There were no injuries reported in any of these incidents,” said fire brigade officials.
Attributing the rains to pre-monsoon showers, the rainfall had taken place due to ‘Convictive Activity’ and was likely to continue in the city for the next couple of days.
